ASUS is taking a shot at Apple's Macbook Air with its new range of Ultrabooks notebooks called the Zenbook. Ultrabook is a new category of notebooks that are thinner, lighter, faster and have long battery life.
The Zenbook comes in two flavours - the 11.6in UX21E runs on an Intel Core i5 processor while the larger 13.3in UX31E has a more powerful Core i7 processor.
The screens uses LED-backlighting that not only produce exceptionally bright and vibrant images but are also energy efficient. The 11.6in and 13.3in models have a screen resolution of 1,366 x 768-pixels and 1,600 x 900-pixels respectively.
Asus claims that the Zenbook notebook is the thinnest Ultrabook in the market. They feature a sleek silver aluminum body that is just 3mm thin at its thinnest point and 9mm thick at the back.
The main highlight of the Zenbook, however, is the instant-on feature that allows the notebook to resume operation in just two seconds from standby mode.
The notebooks have a standby time of up to two weeks.
For storage it comes with a SATA Revision 3.0 solid-state drive - the UX21E has a 128GB of storage and the UX31E has 256GB.
The Zenbooks also feature a USB Charger+ technology that allows the notebook's USB 3.0 port to charge portable devices in a fraction of the time it would normally take.
Asus worked with audio experts at Bang & Olufsen to pump up the bass of the built in speakers. The UX21E and UX31E are available now for RM3,299 and RM4,499 respectively. - CHONG JINN XIUNG
