Epson's first running tracker

Seiko Epson Corp has unveiled what it says is the world's lightest Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled running monitor, housed within an extremely thin design.

Designed to be worn like a wristwatch, the monitor marks the company's first entry into the electronic sporting goods market.

Attached to a flexible strap, it weighs 50g, is 13mm thick and water resistant up to 50m of water, eliminating worry over getting caught in downpours.

The compact, high-accuracy, low-power built-in GPS module offers runners accurate real-time performance data including distance, pace, and speed.

The device can operate for up to 12 hours on a full charge with GPS tracking on, which is more than enough juice for long-distance events, from full marathons to trail runs.

It is expected to hit stores early next year.
