SONY has introduced a new line of earphones called the XBA series, which adds seven in-ear models into the company's already extensive range.

The XBA models all feature a new Balanced Armature (BA) driver system which is said to be smaller (up to a quarter the size of 13.5mm drivers) and yet offer a similar level of sensitivity as larger drivers.

Thanks to the Balanced Armature's micro size and high sensitivity, Sony has been able to produce models with either a single full-range driver, or a combination of several drivers, which include tweeters, woofers or super woofers.

XBA-4

The XBA-1, XBA-2, XBA-3 and XBA-4 are similar, except that each model up features more drivers - for example, the XBA-1 has a single full-range BA driver while the XBA-4 has four, namely a full-range driver, woofer, tweeter and super woofer.

There is also a waterproof and washable model called the XBA-S65 that offers a single full-range BA driver and has much better sound quality than previously available in waterproof earphones.

The XBA-NC85D, on the other hand, is a digital noise cancelling model which is said to be the smallest active noise cancelling earphones on the market, thanks to circuitry miniaturised to such an extent that it fits (together with a battery) into the earphone housing itself.

XBA-S65

For those who prefer Bluetooth wireless headsets, Sony has the XBA-BT75 which not only streams high-quality wireless audio but works as a Bluetooth headset as well.

All models should be available at most Sony Centres by the time you read this and prices range from RM199 to RM1,399 depending on the model.
