Norton app to mind kids' mobile activities
Posted On Mar 1, 2012 at , 3:19 PM by SyahrizalSYMANTEC has released Norton Safety Minder: Mobile Edition, a free Android app that allows parents to keep an eye on their kids' smartphone activities. The application is used as part of Norton Online Family, its online family safety service for PCs and Macs.
The app provides free web monitoring and blocking features, allowing parents to see what sites their kids are visiting and block content they feel is inappropriate.
Applied through their Norton Online Family account, parents can use the same set of web filtering settings for their child's PC and apply them to the child's Android phone.
The service tracks up to seven days of content for free.
Parents just need to download the app on their child's Android phone and log on to their Norton Online Family account which can be created on online or from within the application.
Once they are logged in to their account, parents can centrally manage what their children can and cannot do on the registered device.
They can also add more than phones to the same account at no charge and fix unique settings for each, allowing parents a single point to manage varied settings for kids of different ages.
The Norton Safety Minder: Mobile Edition is available free in the Android Market. Users will need to have Android version 2.2 or 2.3 to run the app.
There is no news yet on whether it will be made available for other mobile platforms such as Apple's iOS and Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.
