KUALA LUMPUR: The newly-launched WUX4000 XEED is Canon's first high-resolution widescreen multimedia projector.

It has the company's proprietary LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) panels that help it generate up to 1,920 x 1,200-pixel resolution (WUXGA) images, with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a brightness level of 4,000 lumens.

The panels also work with Canon's AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) optical engine to deliver detailed, ultra-bright images, free of lattice, "screen door" and "rainbow" artifacts.

These make the projector perfect for the entertainment industry's needs and even for use in hospitals, said Donny Ling, director of Canon's consumer system products division.

"It is the projector of choice for theatres, conference centres, corporate boardrooms, theme parks, museums, educational institutions and medical facilities," he said.

For instance, in the medical field the built-in DICOM SIM mode enables the projector to display accurate greyscale renderings of X-rays and CT scans, which is vital in pre-surgery in-hospital briefings, medical-related lectures and scientific presentations.

Photography professionals would be happy to note that the projector has two dedicated photographic imaging modes: Vivid Photo and Photo/sRGB.

Vivid Photo induces greater vibrancy in multi-coloured images, especially pale hues and whites, while Photo/sRGB is designed to faithfully reproduce the delicate colour accents of the original source image, even in bright settings.

With three optional interchangeable projection lenses - standard zoom, telephoto and a fixed short-focus - users can pick the one that best suits their needs.

The WUX4000 also features a 360-degree installation orientation, which is complemented with a motorised lens shift function, enabling users to shift the projected image position vertically and horizontally to work around minor projector placement obstacles, like pillars.

For easy maintenance and making replacement convenient even when the projector is mounted on the ceiling, the lamp unit and air filter have been designed to be easily accessible from the back and side of the unit.

The lamp has a long 4,000-hour and 3,000-hour operating life in quiet and standard mode, respectively. There is also a cooling mechanism for the lamp and panels independently.

The availability of industry standard digital and analogue terminals, such as HDMI version 1.3, DVI-D, PC, two audio inputs and one audio output for external amplifiers and speakers, makes it possible to connect to a range of video devices and computers.

Also available is a built-in 5-watt speaker should there be any on-site audio limitation, said Canon.

The projector retails for RM24,888.
