Pumping up the Internet speed in Johor Baru

U MOBILE Sdn Bhd has expanded its 42Mbps (megabits per second) broadband mobile Internet network to cover selected areas in Johor Baru.

Postpaid customers in commercial and residential vicinities can expect Internet access 3x to 5x faster than the speeds now available in the market, said Dr Kaizad Heerjee, the company's chief executive officer.

Some of these areas are Taman Molek 1, 2 and 3, Taman Gembira, Taman Delima, Desa Harmoni, Bukit Kempas, Stulang Laut and Jalan Ibrahim Sultan, and the free-trade zone.

Customers can subscribe to the 42Mbps package from as low as RM68 with a data cap of 20GB per month. To date U Mobile has installed more than 200 base stations in these zones and will continue to increase the number gradually.

It also announced that it was making steady progress nationwide with the implementation of its 42Mbps service.

"For the remainder of the year, we will continue to grow our 42Mbps offering across the nation, especially in the Klang Valley, Penang, Seremban and Port Dickson," Kaizad said. He said the company's strategic partnership with ZTE Corp, inked earlier this year, for a three-pronged development strategy will see consistent and steady upgrades from 42Mbps to 84Mbps, and eventually 100Mbps across Malaysia.

"We are on track, on target and are progressing well within our planned time frame. I believe we are leading in this space and will continue to innovate and grow to meet consumer demands," he added.
